Managed software item

About

A managed software item is required for software packaging, identifying software installations, and tracking software utilization.

You can create reports of installed software even without managed software, but they are restricted to either specific add/remove programs or file scan items. Typically all software that is required in the environment should have a managed software item.

You can also create managed software of unwanted software, create software identification rules for that and select it as a not allowed software. This way you can use this information as a negative result in quality indexes.
