Performing offline domain join

Requirements: One connector per each AD domain

Computers can be joined to a domain without the computers contacting a domain controller, but this requires that you have installed and configured one Offline Domain Join connector per every Active Directory domain where you want to add computers. The connector requirements, installation steps and configuration is explained more thoroughly at the Offline Domain Join connector page.

When the offline domain join is performed?

The offline domain join operation can be performed either during initial installation or device self-service enrollment. Both scenarios are explained below.

Offline domain join as part of initial installation

An offline domain join will be performed during asset initial installation if "Miradore Offline Domain Join~1" system package is included in the initial installation. You can choose what packages are included in initial installation by attaching the packages to certain configuration items in Miradore. For more information, please read Attaching packages to configuration items. Also notice that a reboot is required when using the "Miradore Offline Domain Join" system package.

When the offline domain join is performed as part of the initial installation, Miradore uses the Offline Domain Join connector specified at the asset's organisation item to conduct the operation. The connector defines the domain where the asset will be joined. Therefore, it is important that you have assigned the asset to the correct organisation before starting the initial installation. Child organisations inherit the Offline Domain Join connector setting from their parent in the organisation hierarchy.

If no Offline Domain Join connector has been selected for the asset's organisation, then the offline domain join is performed using the default Offline Domain Join connector. All configured connectors are listed in "Administration > System settings > Connectors > Offline Domain Join". If you open any of the Offline Domain Join connector items from the table, you can see the "Default domain" field, which indicates whether the connector is the default connector for the offline domain joins or not.

Offline domain join during device self-service enrollment

The offline domain join can be also configured to happen automatically after an end-user has enrolled a new computer to Miradore Management Suite through the device self-service enrollment workflow.

The end-user's computer will be joined to the domain which is specified in the "Domain to join" field at the Self-service enrollment item IF the "Miradore Offline Domain Join~1" package is attached to the device usage which is selected for the Self-service enrollment item.

You can manage the packages attached to the device usages at the Device usage items, which are listed in the "Administration > Basic settings > Device usages view".
