About asset groups

Asset group is a collection of asset configuration items. The management of asset groups is done mainly in the Assets groups view.

Asset group types

There is two types of asset groups: static and dynamic. The asset group type can be selected at the Asset group item page.

Why asset groups are needed?

There are many places in Miradore, where you can use restrictions to set a scope for something. The scope defines the target assets where the use of some feature is allowed, or the target assets for some action. When defining the scope, it is possible to use asset attributes, such as device role, operating system category and location to define the target assets, for example. However, if you have a lot of devices which are very heterogeneous, then it could be rather difficult to define a scope which matches to some certain asset configuration items only. But with the help of asset groups, you can easily create groups of whatever assets, and then use the asset group in the scope controls to apply the restriction or action to the devices which are members of the asset group.

Where asset groups can be used?

Asset groups can be used to assign target assets (i.e. set a scope) for these purposes:

Default asset groups

By default, there are two asset groups in Miradore: "All computers" and "Ungrouped computers", but you can create more asset groups in "Administration > Basic Settings > Asset groups view".

What or how many assets belong to an asset group?

If you want, you can navigate to Asset groups view and use the "Assets in group" column to check how many assets have been added to Asset groups. For a closer analysis, you can open the Asset group items from the view and navigate to the item's Analyze tab, where you see a listing of the assets that belong to the group.

You can use the "Update dynamic group members" task at the Asset group item page to update the members of the particular asset group whenever needed.

Which users can edit asset groups?

Only users who belong to Administrators or Editors user groups have permissions to create, activate, and modify asset groups.
