The device role item is a high level explanation of the use of a network connected asset configuration item. A device role can only be assigned to assets connected to network (mandatory field).
The default roles (after installation of Miradore server) are workstation, server and network device. You can modify or delete predefined device roles or create your own (For example: Office PC, Factory PC ...).
The device role has a special meaning when configuring the initial installation settings. The device role is always chosen wherever packages can be attached. Packages are always attached to a device role and to an operating system.
