Using Wake-On-Lan administrators can power on devices that are powered off or suspended. Miradore implements Wake-On-Lan using a Magic Packet which is sent as an UDP broadcast in the subnet. Magic Packet is sent by an online device in the subnet with Miradore Client (version 2.0.0 or above) running. Offline devices connected to a subnet without any online Miradore Client can not be powered on.
When an offline device needs to be powered on a Wake-On-Lan request is created. A Client from the same subnet connecting to Miradore server will receive this request and execute it by broadcasting the Magic Packet. Methods for creating a Wake-On-Lan request are described in the next chapters.
A single offline device can be powered on from the device's device configuration form. To create a Wake-On-Lan request open the target device’s configuration form and select Tasks > Administration > Wake-On-Lan. The request is executed immediately if there’s an online Client in the same subnet as the target device.
Notice, that you must be a member of Miradore Administrators group to use Wake-On-Lan.
A group distribution can be configured to use Wake-On-Lan for powering on offline targets. When creating a group distribution select 'Yes' to “Use Wake-On-Lan for offline devices”. After the status of the group distribution has changed to “Running”, Wake-On-Lan requests for offline devices are created.
Notice, that requests are not executed immediately like when using Wake-On-Lan for a single device. Instead, requests will be executed whenever a Miradore Client from the same subnet connects to the Miradore server.
The following requirements need to be fulfilled to get Wake-On-Lan working:
Wake-On-Lan needs to be enabled from the target device’s BIOS
For suspended devices, Wake-On-Lan needs to be enabled from the target device’s operating system: the LAN adapter needs to be configured to allow resuming the device using a Magic Packet
The target device needs to be connected using a LAN adapter
The target device needs to have Miradore Client installed to retrieve the device's last used IP-address
Hardware inventory from the target device is needed to retrieve the correct MAC-address
Item of the subnet where the target device is connected needs to exist in Miradore
In the same subnet where the target device is connected it is needed to have at least one online device with Miradore Client (version 2.0.0 or above) running
In the same subnet where the target device is connected broadcasts need to be allowed using UDP port 32227
